Welterweights Dan Hardy and Anthony Johnson have verbally agreed to square off in March, MMA Fighting has learned from sources close to the fight.
The front-runner event to host the bout is Ultimate Fight Night 24 on March 30. Although not officially announced by the organization, that card is expected to take place in Seattle, Wash. The UFC is also expected to hold events on March 3 and March 19.
Hardy, 23-8 with 1 no contest, has lost his last two fights in a row. He dropped a welterweight title fight to Georges St-Pierre in March and suffered a first-round knockout loss to Carlos Condit in his home country of England in October. Prior to his recent losing streak, “The Outlaw” had won seven fights in a row.
Meanwhile, Johnson hasn’t competed since November 2009 when he lost via second-round submission to Josh Koscheck. He was supposed to fight John Howard in March, but a knee injury suffered in training forced him to pull out of the bout. Prior to the Koscheck loss, the 8-3 fighter had won three in a row.
