KNOXX’s ANTHONY JOHNSON AND KEVIN BURNS TO REMATCH LIVE ON SPIKE TV SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13

Rematch Between Rising Welterweights Will Take Place
On “The Ultimate Fighter 8” Finale Fight Card

After a controversial ending to their first bout, UFC welterweights Kevin Burns and Anthony “Rumble” Johnson will meet in the Octagon once again in December. The two will settle the score at the live finale for “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir”, emanating from The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV LIVE on December 13 at 9:00 PM ET.

A Georgia native fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnson (5-2), one of the welterweight division’s most explosive athletes, and Burns (8-1), a promising newcomer from Des Moines, IA, first met this past July at UFC Fight Night: Silva vs Irvin. Towards the end of three highly competitive rounds, it seemed that Johnson was on his way to a hard fought decision win when Burns inadvertently poked him in the eye while throwing an uppercut. The strike escaped the view of referee Steve Mazzagatti, and when Johnson was felled by the blow, Burns pounced and won by TKO. Both fighters have lobbied for a rematch, and their wish will be granted on December 13 in Las Vegas.

KNOXX sponsored athletes give presentations at Santa Clara County Juvenile Detention Center.

On Friday November 14, 2008, several members of Knock out Dog Fighting went to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Detention Center to give our presentation to at-risk youth. Our presenters were founder of the program and dog handler Kris Crawford, breakdancer Teck Liew, KNOXX MMA Fighters Paul “The Head Hunter” Buentello, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, Josh “The Punk” Thomson, and KNOXX sponsored NPC Miss California Overall Figure Champion Mona Liza Reyes. Kris is the recipient of a Jefferson Award for the many different programs she has developed for the community (provided all at no cost to the public) so San Francisco television station CBS5 was in attendance to film the presentation.

Our presentation is, quite simply, about drive, discipline and choices. The members of Knock Out Dog Fighting are elite athletes and role models who are experts in their field that are giving back to the community by helping at-risk youth make better choices, develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles – which reduces the potential of involvement in at-risk activities…like dog fighting. The basic premise behind each of the segments in our presentation is self-motivation, self-discipline, choices, and what it takes to be a champion.

Youth is a time of making mistakes and learning to overcome them. Change is not easy. It is often a process of one step forward and two steps back. Teck, Paul, Anthony, Josh and Mona Liza have a unique gift that enables them to inspire these young adults to look deep down within themselves and ask, “What is it, in my heart, that I really want to be?”

Knock Out Dog Fighting is helping young adults tap into their talents and learn new skills so they will join us in protecting animals and also find the meaningful life they were meant to live.

KNOXX's Josh "The Punk" Thomson withdraw from first title defense.

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

A toe injury forced lightweight champion Josh Thomson to withdraw from his first title defense against Yves Edwards at Strikeforce “Destruction” on Nov. 21 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

Strikeforce officials announced the change to their main event on Wednesday. UFC veteran Duane Ludwig will meet Edwards in Thomson’s stead.

Thomson, who tore ligaments in his toe while training, has not competed since he stopped Ashe Bowman on strikes in 74 seconds at the Playboy Mansion two months ago. The 30-year-old American Kickboxing Academy product has rattled off eight consecutive victories since his decision loss to Clay Guida in 2006, re-establishing himself as one of the world’s premier 155-pound fighters. Thomson (16-2) captured the Strikeforce lightweight crown from Gilbert Melendez in a career-defining performance in June.

The bout against Edwards (34-14-1) represented a chance for Thomson to avenge one of his two career losses. Edwards knocked out the Californian with a highlight-reel head kick at UFC 49 four years ago.
